What To Look For In Van Insurances
Many of you small business owners use a van as a key element in getting daily tasks done, and just as you need to get the right type of van for the job, you also need to get the right sort of insurance for it. Van insurances vary with the type of vehicle of course, but also from one insurance company to another. There are some features common to most insurance deals for vans – like:
Breakdown cover
This can consist of anything from being able to have the cost of a tow truck covered, to the possibility of borrowing a replacement van while yours is undergoing repairs. This of course extremely valuable, as it helps you waste as little time as possible, in the event of a breakdown – and simply get back to work. Whether you need it or not is a choice you must make, but if a lot of important work depends on having a van at the ready, then it would probably be worth it for you.
No claims bonus
This is the term used by some insurance companies about a special bonus you can earn for every year you haven’t made a claim for an insurance sum – in other words, it is a reward for not having had any breakdowns or accidents. Most companies limit this bonus to a number of years, after which you can get no further reductions on your premium on that account. You should also be aware that any time you do make a claim, you lose this bonus – entirely or partially. From the perspective of the insurance company, it is one way to keep you a a customer.
Trailer coverage
Some policies also include coverage for a trailer you might need to tow, or perhaps a generator. There might be some limitations though, the obvious being that what you tow must be within what it is legal for you to tow with your class of vehicle.
Van fleet insurance
If you have more than one van or other type of car or truck, you may be eligible for fleet insurance. Getting a fleet insurance can be a good way to get a substantial discount on your policy – as insurance companies would love to insure as much as possible. Some policies cover mixed vehicles, such as vans, cars or trucks – on one policy. How many vehicles you need to have to obtain fleet insurance will vary between companies, and possibly also depend on the types of vehicles you want to insure. Some will insure fleets as small as 2 vehicles, while others will only look at larger numbers.
Goods in transit
If you also want to have coverage for the goods you transport, you may have to get a separate policy for it – although some do offer a limited coverage of goods as part of van insurances.
Consider this a short checklist of things which you may wish to include in your van insurance quotes. Good luck finding good and cheap van insurance.
